Trident Clinical Research Locations: Australia
In a recent International benchmarking Study undertaken by The Economist Intelligence Unit, Australia was ranked as the number 1 location to conduct clinical trials when compared to the USA, UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore and India.
Australia was found to offer significant cost advantages for running clinical trials, a large number of recognised trial sites, and is highly efficient according to timeline indicators.
The report noted that Australia has relatively fewer actual clinical trials taking place, suggesting untapped potential for increased investment into the Australian clinical trial industry. A copy of the report can be viewed on the Australian government website www.industry.gov.au
Trident Clinical Research is the Australian partner of choice for many local and multi-national companies. Our reputation is second to none in the Australian market.
Conducting clinical trials in Australia has many advantages:
- Australia has a highly regarded medical system, with one of the most advanced medical training systems in the world. Australia is a wealthy country with a high quality healthcare system accessible to all members of the population.
- Many Australian doctors have spent time in the USA or Europe broadening their training in world-renowned centres. A number of worldwide key opinion leaders reside and work in Australia, and for this reason, many companies prefer to place clinical trials in Australia. All of the major hospitals have experienced clinical research staff, many with dedicated clinical research units.
- In a number of key therapeutic areas there is a long history of conducting clinical trials, and therefore there is a wealth of experience in clinical trials among senior medical staff.
- Due to our location in the Southern hemisphere, Australian seasons are opposite to those in the Northern hemisphere. Winter runs from May to August in the southern states, while the northern regions remain warm all year round. For trials in conditions that have a seasonal aspect, it can be time-effective and cost-effective to include an Australian component, ensuring that seasonal variations in patient recruitment are covered.
- Australia has a streamlined regulatory process for clinical trials. For the vast majority of trials, the only approval required before a trial can begin is that of the ethics committee. This process ensures that Australia can be among the quickest in the world at starting up a clinical trial.
- Australia has traditionally been a cost-effective alternative to other Western countries, and this remains so currently. While Australia’s large cities are spread across the continent, Trident’s regionalised services mean that we are able to offset travel costs if required.
- There is a high awareness of clinical research among the general Australian public, and a generally positive perception of the value of conducting clinical trials and contributing to a greater cause.
