Trident Clinical Research Locations: New Zealand
New Zealand is a country of just over 4 million people with a well trained and educated first world healthcare system. It has a long history of innovation and research and follows similar clinical standards to those in Europe and North America.
The main benefits of carrying out clinical research in New Zealand are:
- Straight forward regulatory and ethics processes that run in parallel thus reducing start up time. There is a central multi-region ethics committee for studies which involve multiple regional sites, therefore only one ethics submission is required.
- Excellent network of enthusiastic well trained and experienced investigators and trial sites with a good reputation for meeting recruitment targets.
- Favourable exchange rate and lower setup costs compared to many other first world countries ensure a cost effective option.
- Reverse seasons to the Northern Hemisphere, giving the potential to enhance recruitment in therapeutic areas related to seasonally driven conditions. This also applies to vacation periods for staff – New Zealand continuing recruitment while the Northern Hemisphere is on vacation.
- For the Asia Pacific region, New Zealand is the closest time zone to the US West Coast. Whilst NZ is almost a day ahead it does share a large part of the working day with it facilitating improved study management.
